About NP4K

Richard Louv coined the phrase ‘Nature Deficit Disorder’ to describe the negative health implications on children from spending the majority of their time indoors and in front of screens.

The team at Nature Play 4 Kids (NP4K) are committed to reversing this trend by providing parents, schools, corporate organisations and community groups with a range of programs that promote creative and mindful experiences in nature with an emphasis on unstructured play.

With the added bonus of being good for stress levels, the immune system, and general well being, the Nature Play 4 Kids program is guaranteed to bring smiles, laughter and a new found love for the outdoors.

Invite the team to your school, come to one of our public events, involve us in your community festival or corporate function.

Just don’t wear your good clothes!

What does Nature Play Involve?

Creativity

Nature and play together promote creative thinking

We’re not all artistic, but we’re all creative!

All of our NP4K programs include creative elements, which help the brain produce dopamine – a natural antidepressant.

Mindfulness

Using our senses to notice all that nature offers

Mindfulness helps relieve stress, improve sleep, lower blood pressure, and assist with nurturing good mental health.

Inside, the practice can be beneficial. But outside, mindfulness is magical!

Play

Finding the joy in controlled, unstructured play time

Play has many of the same health benefits as creativity and mindfulness.

Additionally play can help develop relational skills and social interactions, and help to heal deep emotional wounds.

About NP4K

We love to be outside.

We love to play.

Why not bring the two together in a way that makes kids (and the adults that care for them) happier and healthier?

That’s what Nature Play 4 Kids is all about.

Emerging from a global pandemic that has seen us all locked away in front of our screens for months, it is now more important than ever to get back into nature and receive all that the trees, animals and birds have to offer.

“Restore balance. Most kids have technology, school and extracurricular activities covered. It’s time to add a pinch of adventure, a sprinkle of sunshine and a big handful of  outdoor play.”

Five Ways to Develop “Ecoliteracy”

“Ecoliterate” is our shorthand for the end goal of this kind of learning, and raising ecoliterate students requires a process that we call “socially and emotionally engaged ecoliteracy”—a process that, we believe, offers an antidote to the fear, anger, and...

Playing in the Rain

My kids love the rain because rain is fun. When it rains, we collect snails, jump in puddles and catch rain drops on our tongues. We even roll in the mud sometimes. Mud is even more fun than rain. Yes, that means proper boots and rain gear, but it also means being...

Ecotherapy and Anxious Kids

Exposure to nature tends to calm and refresh the overstimulated brain. Specific tasks such as completing tasks and composing emails require concentration, but actions such as seeing flowers and listening to thunderstorms make them so-called “soft charm”. Mental health...
